A couple of weeks ago I was able to sneak away to Atlanta for a little weekend getaway (worked remotely on Friday!) and I had a blast! The only other times I’ve been to Atlanta were when I was connecting flights at the airport and that certainly doesn’t count as a visit, so I was super excited to get a little taste of the ATL.
Here’s a preliminary list of things to do for first-timers.. just to get the juices flowing!
The W Atlanta Downtown was absolutely fantastic! Super chic with a modern industrial design and the hotel bar is to die for… delicious cocktails but the art installation is the best part.
FOOD & DRANKS
Atlanta Breakfast Club – Life Hack! It’s right across the street from the Georgia Aquarium, so put your name on the (probably 20-30 min waitlist) and go get your tickets while you wait for your table.. they’ll text you when it’s ready!
Venkman’s – Super chill hall for brunch and live music! There were *supposed* to have frose but ran out right before we got there… bummer! So we coped by getting the “Big Ass Sticky Bun” and it did not disappoint.
Il Localino – This hole-in-the wall Italian joint was absolutely incredible and just a 10 min Uber from downtown. Full of memorabilia lining the walls and ceilings, this restaurant does not disappoint. The food was delicious and they even bring everyone fun hats to wear! A great date night spot or family gathering. Split a bottle of wine and order the oyster pasta. It was to die for… Oh and the bread and whipped garlic butter was hands-down the best.
Ponce City Market – Once you’re done shopping, head on up to Skyline Park for refreshing frose, put put, and a stellar view of downtown Atlanta.
Queen of Cream – Because who doesn’t love ice cream in aesthetically pleasing places?
Sun Dial Restaurant – Super swanky 360 degree dining experience with incredible views of the city.. It sort of gave me Las Vegas Stratosphere vibes! Make a reservation for a sunset dinner and enjoy your drinks while watching the city go dark.
THINGS TO DO
Georgia Aquarium – I love aquariums… I instantly feel like I am a kid again running from habitat to habitat, my jaw dropping at every stop. And I’ve learned that my new favorite animal is the sea otter… THEY’RE JUST SO CUTE!! Tickets aren’t cheap so like… go see every habitat and maybe do the 4D experience while you’re at it.. Go big or go home.
High Museum of Art – Walking through galleries of artwork and installations is never a bad idea when visiting a new city! Bonus: go across the street to the Octane Cafe for an Americola slushy! Yup that’s an american0 + coca cola slushy.
Not sure when I’ll be back in Atlanta, but looking forward to exploring it again!
