My Budget Friendly Skincare Routine

Taking care of my skin (especially my face) has always been a huge priority for me. Not only does it make me feel and look good, but I turn my skincare routine into a relaxing and mindful ritual, so I look forward to it every morning and night. What I’ve learned over the years is that you don’t have to spend a fortune (unless you want to!) to take care of yourself, there are so many budget friendly products that will do the trick. Here’s a list (+ links!) to the skin care products I use everyday.

Neutrogena Make Up Wipes: 2 for $10 at Bed Bath & Beyond or Harmon Face Values. I love to throw these in my gym bag or carry on. The Night Calming pack smells amazing, too!

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Face Wash Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub: I use this in the shower after I’ve wiped my makeup off and especially right after a sweaty gym workout. It exfoliates perfectly and I make sure to get my neck, chest, and upper back with it as well. I throw this in my gym bag, too, for those post-boxing workouts.

In highschool & college I used Cetaphil No Fragrance cleanser a lot, as well! So gentle for sensitive skin, which really came in handy when I was on Accutane. I like to use this one with a soft exfoliating cloth.

Neutrogena Pre-Refining Toner: Pour a little bit on a cotton round and swipe your face, swiping in an upward motion. This really gets any extra makeup that the wipes/cleaners didn’t get and clears out those pores.

I am OBSESSED with the Lancome Genefique serum. Whenever I use it, I notice an extreme differnece in overall skin tone and texture, and I look like I’m glowing the next morning!

**Life hack/the only way I get this serum: I ALWAYS ask for testers when I’m at Macy’s!

DAY CREAM: I use Lancome’s Bienfait Multi-Vital SPF 30 Cream because SUNSCREEN IS LIFE. Once summer rolls around and the sun is a lot stronger, I switch to Neutrogena’s SPF 70 to put on my face… Yes, I just said SPF 70, it’s super lightweight and acts as a great primer for my makeup, as well. I have been wearing sunscreen on my face every single day since maybe my junior year of highschool, and my dermatologist loves me for it. Just because you can’t see the sun, doesn’t mean UV rays aren’t hitting you! I’m trying to prolong those Botox injections and skin cancer scares for as long as I can! Hah!

I also have this Lancome Bienfait Multi-Vital SPF 30 Eye Cream that I actually don’t use that often, but will definitely get it back in my regimen soon, especially once we get some bright sunshine here in the city.

**Speaking of dermatologists, when was the last time you had your skin checked?

NIGHT CREAM: I swear by Lancome Bienfait Multivital Night Cream, it lasts me months and I really noticed a difference in my skin tone after using it for a while. I recently just switched over to L’Oreal Paris Age Perfect Cell Renewal Night Cream, because I’m living that #BudgetLife at the moment. So far so good, it’s a lot thicker than the Lancome and it smells amazing.

**Pro Tip: Always press moisturizers into your skin, do not just rub it on the surface. Pressing it in makes sure that it starts to make it’s way deeper into the epidermis to moisturize more skin cells.

Acne Treatment:
For spot treatment, I use Galderma’s Epiduo topical cream. This was from a prescription from my dermatologist (another reason to book your appointment now!) and it contains Benzoyl Peroxide.  I put a little dot of cream on a spot and let it sit overnight while I sleep and I usually see it get smaller after a couple of days.

Face Mask:
Self Care Sunday is a real thing and I take it very seriously. At the end of a long work week and probably busy weekend, there’s nothing I love more than winding down on a Sunday evening and treating myself to a face mask. Candles and wine are also involved.. it’s a party.

One type of mask I like to use is the Global Beauty Care Wash-Off Charcoal Face Mask from Bed Bath & Beyond.  It lasts forever and all you have to do is just squeeze a dollop out and smear it around your T Zone or entire face. I like this one because it doesn’t dry out and start cracking, it just sits there and dries slowly. And there are so many mask options to choose from!

Another, more heavy-duty, mask that I use is the Aztec Secret Healing Clay from Whole Foods.  Just add water and apple cider vinegar for an extra kick. This one does dry quickly and will begin to crack if you move your face, it can hurt but once it’s off, your skin feels AMAZE BALLS. You’ll be a little red, but the next day you be lookin FINE.

**Tip: After rinsing with warm water and my face is fully dry, I swipe a little toner across my face to remove any leftover mask, then I moisturize extra that night.
**You shouldn’t face mask more than once a week as it can dry out your skin.

As far as body lotion goes, I have always used Jergens Ultra Healing body lotion before going to bed and before heading out the door in the morning. I was never that great about using body lotion, but as I’ve gotten older, I now realize how vital this is. And my skin thanks me, too.

For the spring/summer months, I like to use Jergens Natural Glow body lotion to get that sun-free tan started.

No matter what your current skin routine is, it’s important to remember that we all have such different skin types and sensitivities, so you ultimately know your skin best. However, there are a couple universal skin rules that everyone could benefit from following:

— Water! Water! Water! Duh, you’ve heard this a million times, but it’s so important to hydrate your body with plenty of water. This will keep your skin looking full and fresh.
— Eating right goes a long way, as well. Lot’s of greens and healthy fats are essential for keeping your skin hydrated and nourished. I’ve noticed that when I eat processed sugars I always get acne along my jawline and it is SO ANNOYING, so I’m really working on finding healthier cravings for my sweet tooth.
— When I go on outdoor runs, I always wear a ball cap and spray on some sunscreen before heading out the door. This protects my face, arms, and shoulders from harmful UV rays. Even with sunscreen, though, I still get a little tan which is always nice!

What skin care products do you swear by? I’m always interested in trying new things!
